UMSL College of Optometry - Telehealth

Telehealth has become a valuable option in our ability to reach patients in the age of pandemic. With St. Louis' robust and ubiquitous broadband connectivity and reduced latency, we're able to evaluate patients through HIPAA compliant audio-video platforms in synchronous fashion. This approach has improved our reach at Affinia Healthcare. Given UMSL's College of Optometry is the only optometric program in the state, we assume a responsibility greater than being an anchor institute to our community. We assume a responsibility to serve all of Missouri, especially counties lacking access to eye care services. Given that those same counties likely lack broadband connectivity, our working model serves as example of how healthcare equity efforts through technology can close healthcare gaps.
